- TeleShare/SETUP the TsSETUP.EXE setup program
-
-
-
- The TeleShare/SETUP program is called TsSETUP.EXE. To execute
- the program just change to the sub-directory where you
- deposited the TeleShare programs and enter 'TsSETUP'. Use it
- to supply setup information to TSH.exe, TSR.exe, XM.exe, and
- TSDIAL.exe. The TsPHONE program supplies a menu to select
- TSSETUP.
-
- You will see a simple menu screen with some catagories, as
- follows:
-
- General Defaults Security Remote Transfer Modem Sharing
-
- The center of the screen displays various settings as you move
- from catagory to catagory using the arrow keys and/or
- PGUP/PGDN. Use the sideways arrow keys or PGUP or PGDN to
- change catagories. Use the up/down arrow keys to move from
- field to field within each catagory. Every selection has a
- matching context sensitive help area at the bottom of the
- screen. Its reasonable to only change what you need to
- change, such as the COM port and the baud rate.
-
-
- Save your changes using the ESCape key. You will need to
- verify saving by pressing 'Y' when asked if you wish to 'SAVE
- TO DISK?'.
-
- All settings are written to a binary configuration file called
- TSCONFIG.CFG. This file is used by both HOST and REMOTE
- programs. If it ever becomes corrupted or you simply want to
- reset to the default values then just delete the TSCONFIG.CFG
- file and run TsSETUP.EXE. You will be asked if you want to
- create a new TSCONFIG.CFG file. Answer 'Y'es and a new one
- will be created with the default settings. If you start
- getting 'odd behaviour' or it 'just quits working', erase the
- TSCONFIG.CFG file and create a new one. It may have become
- corrupted and cause problems.
-
- If you run TsSETUP while either the TSH.exe or TSR.exe is
-
-
-
-
- TeleShare REMOTE ACCESS Page 2 DOS
-
- running then you will also be asked on exit if you want to
- 'Update the TSR running on this PC?'. This will send some of
- the new defaults directly to the program so you don't need to
- load/unload.
-
- NOTE: The only settings which will not take effect
- immediately if you elect to update the running program are
- those that deal with the COM port ( baud rate, etc ) and those
- that deal with security ( password, etc. ). These settings
- cannot be changed on the fly. You have to UNLOAD the TSR
- currently running with 'TSH U' or 'TSR U' and then reload with
- 'TSHOST' or 'TSREM' batch files to be sure all parameter
- changes are now in effect.
-
- This option was intended to make it easy to turn 'send
- attributes?' ON/OFF without unloading the TSR. Critical
- settings can only be updated by re-loading the TSR.
-
- A list of ALL settings in TsSETUP follows along with a brief
- description of each.
-
-
- TsSETUP.EXE CATEGORY 1 - GENERAL DEFAULTS
-
- - Software interrupt(Decimal):
-
- Enter the DECIMAL value of the software interrupt. Valid
- entries are interrupts 60 <thru> 67. The default should be
- fine on most PC's. Change it only if you have a good idea
- what you are doing.
-
- - Communications port # (1,2):
-
- Enter the number of the COMMUNICATIONS PORT to use. Enter 1
- for COM1 or 2 for COM2.
-
- - Baud rate........(300-19200): Enter the baud rate
- (300-19200 ).
-
- - Send video attributes?.....:
-
- Press <Y>es to include attributes in update msgs. Press <N>o
- to exchange only TEXT characters. TEXT ONLY provides faster
- screen updates.
-
- TeleShare will not transmit GRAPHICS screens! Future
- release(s) will likely include this capability.
-
- - Use alternate video buffer?:
-
- Press <Y>es to use a non-standard video buffer address Press
- <N>o to use normal DOS video buffer address(es)
-
- NOTE: If active then the HOST will SEND from the specified
- alternate buffer. Normally do not try to use this feature,
- unless you develop a need and know what you are doing.
-
-
-
-
- TeleShare REMOTE ACCESS Page 3 DOS
-
- This could allow the program to be used as a poor man's
- network with certain task switching programs or DOS kernels if
- you find out where the screens are stored in memory.
-
-
- - Address of alternate buffer:
-
- Enter the decimal value of the video buffer segment address.
- This would be something other than B000 or B800 which are the
- standard PC video buffer addresses for Monochrome and CGA/EGA
- respectively. Remember to enter the decimal value.
-
-
- TsSETUP.EXE CATEGORY 2 - SECURITY OPTIONS
-
- If you use the security option then set it ON for both HOST
- and REMOTE, or you will 'lock yourself out'. You won't be
- able to get in if it's set on one and not the other end.
- Also, the password is case sensitive: any capital letters
- must be entered the same way every time you use the password
- on both the host and the remote.
-
-
- Use security? :
-
- Press <Y>es to use SECURITY or <N>o for NONE.
-
- Password:
-
- Enter the system access password.
-
- The password exchange takes place each time you press the
- remote access hotkey sequence to request a session with the
- HOST.
-
- This prevents anyone from 'sneaking on' due to LOST CARRIER as
- you can with some other remote access programs.
-
-
-
- TsSETUP.EXE CATEGORY 3 - REMOTE OPTIONS
-
- - Polling pause :
-
- Enter the number of timer ticks to wait before polling the
- HOST program for a session update. A timer tick is 1/18 of 1
- second, so 18 ticks equals 1 second. The minimum is 3 ticks.
-
- The REMOTE program uses a scheme to request video updates from
- the HOST computer being accessed. The value specified here is
- the number of timer ticks to wait between attempts to poll or
- ask for an update.
-
- Never set the polling pause to anything faster than about 3
- timer ticks or the HOST may become so busy sending you screen
- updates that it won't be able to process the last command in a
-
-
-
-
- TeleShare REMOTE ACCESS Page 4 DOS
-
- timely way.
-
- This poll pause is intended to allow slower systems some
- breathing room. A fast HOST PC can handle short pause
- values. As can PC's using a direct serial connection.
-
- A value of 9 timer ticks should provide good performance on
- all types of PC's.
-
- You may also adjust this value to whatever you need to access
- systems where interrupt activity is higher than normal.
-
-
- - Popup key ALT-
-
- Press the key to use with ALT to enter the REMOTE HOST
- session. Your choices are limited to the capital letters
- A-Z. This allows you to customize the hotkey to you choice,
- and to avoid hotkey conflicts with other software.
-
-
- - Exitkey ALT-
-
- Press the key to use with ALT to return to the LOCAL DOS
- session. Your choices are limited to capital letters A-Z
- only. Customize the hotkey to fit what you want and need.
-
-
- - Mode indicator:
-
- The MODE indicator is the small highlighted block which will
- appear in the upper right corner of the monitor to indicate
- LOCAL or REMOTE mode. Press <Y>es to show it or <N>o to
- exclude it.
-
-
- TsSETUP CATEGORY 4 - TRANSFER OPTIONS
-
-
- - Transfer display box ROW:
-
- Enter the ROW (1-9) to use for the top left corner of the
- transfer display window.
-
-
- - Wait for filename RCVD OK:
-
- When sending files the filename is sent to the receiver before
- transfer starts. Enter the number of seconds to wait for
- acknowledgement of the filename.
-
-
- - Retry filename on SEND:
-
- When sending files the filename is sent to the receiver before
- transfer starts. Enter the number of times to re-send the
-
-
-
-
- TeleShare REMOTE ACCESS Page 5 DOS
-
- filename before giving up.
-
-
- - Wait for filename on RECV:
-
- When receiving files the filename must arrive before transfer
- can begin. Enter the number of seconds to wait for the
- filename before giving up. The minimum is 10 seconds.
-
-
- - Wait for SOH between files:
-
- When receiving files with the XMODEM protocol we must receive
- the SOH character before a transfer can begin. Enter the
- number of seconds to wait before giving up. The minimum is 1
- second.
-
-
- - Fixed loop timeout on XCHNG:
-
- Transfer routines use fixed counters for timeouts. Increase
- this value if you get transfer errors. the minimum is 1000,
- and the maximum is 500000. A 386PC should be at least 20000.
-
-
- - Log all sends to XMSEND.LOG:
-
- Press 'Y' to log all send transactions to a special LOG file
- called XMSEND.LOG.
-
-
- - Log all RECVS to XMRECV.LOG:
-
- Press 'Y' to log all RECEIVE transactions to a special LOG
- file called XMRECV.LOG.
-
- Use the Log file options when you need to keep a record of
- your activities. Example uses are support, security, and
- financial monitoring for each session.
-
-
- - Default PATH for log files.:
-
- Enter the default pathname to use for log files. This tells
- the system where to put the log files, and where you will be
- able to find them later.
-
- Please read the TSRTSH.DOC file for more information,
- including contact and support information.
